Minted
Overview
Minted is a personal finance application focused on asset tracking and long-term wealth planning.
Rather than centring on budgeting or expense categorisation, the platform is designed around a single core objective: helping users build, understand, and optimise their assets over time.
It provides structured insight into financial growth, combining projection, visualisation, and planning tools to support clearer long-term decision-making.
Challenge
The personal finance space is saturated with tools that prioritise budgeting and expense tracking.
While useful, many of these platforms lack:
- clear long-term asset planning
- intuitive growth projections
- meaningful visual feedback on financial progress
The key challenges were:
- differentiating the product from traditional budgeting apps
- designing a system that feels structured but not overwhelming
- translating complex financial data into intuitive visual insights
- implementing projection logic that remains accurate yet understandable
The goal was not to replace existing tools, but to complement them with a stronger focus on asset accumulation and forward planning.
Solution
Minted was built around a structured financial model where asset growth is the primary metric.
Key implementation areas included:
-
Custom financial modelling
Algorithms for compound growth, contribution forecasting, and asset optimisation, designed to balance accuracy with usability -
Modular data architecture
Separation of data processing and calculation logic to support future API integrations and additional financial instruments -
Dynamic data visualisation
Integration with Chart.js to provide responsive, real-time visual feedback on performance and projections -
Simplified input system
A user-friendly interface that reduces friction while maintaining sufficient depth for meaningful planning -
Separation of concerns
Clear division between calculation logic and UI layers, enabling scalability and maintainability as the product evolves
Outcome
Minted establishes a clear product direction centred on long-term financial growth rather than short-term budgeting.
The current MVP supports:
- asset tracking
- growth projections
- visual performance breakdowns
- structured accumulation planning
An upcoming integration with a UK-based trading platform API will enable automated portfolio syncing, reducing manual input and improving data accuracy.
The product is designed for iterative development, with future enhancements driven by user feedback and expanding integration capabilities.
